The Puget Sound Slammers (PSS) U11 Black are champions of the PSPL Classic 2 division.  The PSS U11 Slammers black won their final game of the season 3-1 over the Rainier Valley Slammers White to clinch 1st place and avenge their only loss of the season.

The outcome of the division hinged on this final game with the RV slammers holding onto first by one point in the standings. The PSS Slammers needed a win to take the top spot.  The game was a tough fought physical game in pouring rain. The field was saturated and the girls on both teams had problems moving the ball.  The RV slammers struck first with a good cross and finish part way through the first half and went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.  PSS Slammers struck quickly in the second half with Olivia Cai scoring twice on two nice through balls from Amaya John and Lindsay Rudd. Another insurance goal was added on a beautiful cross by Keila Kruse and a gutsy finish by Mohalia Velez-Fucal that gave the PSS Slammers a 3-1 lead.  The PSS Slammers finished the game playing good physical defense to close out a very determined RV slammers team.

The PSS Slammers U11 team finished the season with a record of six wins one tie and one loss.

Determination and desire marked the play of the Puget Sound Slammers GU15 team as they earned the title of Champion for the Washington Cup GU15 Silver division this past weekend.  The team opened their run in the quarterfinal game Friday night with a 1 – nil win over River City FC at Pioneer Park in Tumwater.

The quarterfinal game played Saturday against Legacy FC was a battle.  Down one goal with about 10 minutes left in regulation, the Slammers were awarded a corner kick which bounced around the box before being deflected in to tie the game at two apiece.  The Slammers held on through regulation and two golden goal overtime periods. The game was eventually decided on penalties and the Slammers emerged victorious to advance to the championship game.

The final was played Sunday at the Regional Athletic Complex in Lacey.  The Slammers faced FPSC Fury Red who they had tied 1-1 during pool play earlier in the tournament.  Once again a corner kick played a pivotal role.  The Fury cleared a PSS corner in the second half.  Anna Russell tracked the cleared ball down outside the box and hammered it back in.  It deflected past several players before falling to Moriah Roedell inside the six yard box on the left side and she was able to slot it past the keeper and into the net for the only goal of the game.

Head coach Kate Green noted that the first goal in the quarterfinal was crucial to the Slammer’s weekend success.  During the previous two practices the team had been working on set pieces and it all came together when Legacy FC committed a foul about 35 yards from goal.  Three players stood over the ball, waited for the official to set the wall and then they set their play in motion.  The first two players ran over the ball without touching it and then Keahna Umpstead hit a rocket over the wall, past the keeper and under the bar to score the Slammer’s first goal of the game.  Both coaches and players were energized to see the efforts of the training field translated so clearly to the game with such phenomenal results.

Congratulations to all the members of the PSS GU15 team!  What a fantastic way to end the year and what a great foundation to build on for our upcoming GU16 campaign.

REGISTRATION FEES

We are happy to announce that we were able to cut some expenses this year and will be passing these savings onto you in the form of lower registration fees for the 2012-2013 season. We have been able to lower our costs because Walid Khoury has agreed to add to his responsibilities with the Club by accepting the position of Director of Coaching, Jeff Lenherr has agreed to add to his responsibilities as a Head Coach with the Club by stepping up as Director of Player Development and Walker John has added Director of Operations to his responsibilities as Head Coach and Vice President of Administration. Walid, Jeff and Walker have all taken on these additional responsibilities without any additional pay. We can’t say enough about their contributions to and belief in the kids, parents and mission of the Puget Sound Slammers, along with the current contributions from our Club Manager Susan Russell and the entire Board and volunteer parents.

This year’s fees are as follows:

We believe we are the best soccer value for your dollar in the area. We offer highly experienced, well trained coaches, In addition our registration fees include the cost of three tournaments all league fees for which the team is eligible to play as well as all field and referee costs for all home game and practices throughout the year.  Only uniforms are outside our registration fees. There are no hidden costs.  Many clubs offer lower registration fees up front but then require additional money for tournaments, coach’s fees, spring league registration and field costs if a younger team wants to play a Spring season. We don’t offer a lower than cost up-front fee to get families in the door and then ask for more money down the road once you have committed.

Academy: PSS will be hosting a weekly academy that will be coached by Jill Green and will focus on individual technical skills.  The academy will run year round and will be at a cost of $30 per month. We are currently expecting this to be on Tuesday from 5:30-6:45.  This is a great way to get your young players some exceptional training at a low cost.

Website: Board Member and Club Parent Randy Roedell has graciously stepped up and has taken on the task of updating and creating a user friendly website. He has completed a survey of what our families would like to see in a website and we are now taking those requests and putting them into action.

Additional Training: We are looking to add a 3rd night of skills training this season. For those players who can not get enough soccer we would like to have a session once a week that will focus more on individual techniques. There will be more to come on this after tryouts.

Goalkeeper Training: We have to apologize for the previous fall and early winter months when we did not have a goalkeeper coach. We realized how hard it is to find a coach that just specializes in goalkeeper training – especially mid-season. We are happy to have found Oscar Salvatierra, who has played keeper at the semi-pro level in both North and South America and has a wealth of knowledge and experience at the position to teach our kids. We recently hired Oscar to complete this season as keepers coach and, after receiving very positive feedback from players and parents, are pleased that he has agreed to continue as keeper coach for next year with PSS. .

The PSS staff is committed to making this the top club in the area.  We have listened to what the PSS families have suggested and we are working hard to implement these changes. We want to continue to hear suggestions from you on ways to improve the Club and your children’s soccer growth and experience.
